Taiji Petition Approaching 1million Signatures
At the time of writing, the petition to Stop the dolphin and whale killings in Taiji has reached 938729 Total Signatures, almost at the 1 million mark, so although I have already posted about this, I want to try and give the petition an extra boost to reach that milestone. Make a Loan – Save a Life
Have you heard about Kiva.org? They are a non-profit doing something good by helping people who are struggling to make a life for themselves but need a loan – usually a pitifully small amount – to help them along. This is a superb idea and I heartily endorse the concept. I especially like that the charity passes on 100% of all donations to the people they are helping. It’s a nice touch that they offer the option of adding 10% to your donation amount (from $25) to help them with their running costs, but is it only an option, there’s no pressure.
Once you have made a donation, this is what happens:
- 100% of your funds will be sent to Kiva’s local partner who will disburse your loan
- You’ll receive periodic updates showing the impact of your loan
- Once your loan is fully repaid, you may withdraw the funds or sponsor a new entrepreneur
See that last bit? A gift you can give over and over again. Nice!
Here’s to Kiva and their enterprising beneficiaries around the world, I want to see them all realise their hopes and dreams, and I wish them well.
Email A Link Sidebar ‘Widget’
I just used the text widget in WordPress to let visitors email a link to my blog. Such a simple thing to add but a really good use of the sidebar text widget. I can’t claim credit for the idea, because it came from a comment by someone known only to me as ‘The One’ (cute name!). Forgive me if I take the kudos for figuring out how to create the link though, won’t you? If you are a WordPress.com blogger and want to add a link like this here is the code:
Notice the cc=” ? It’s a fudge because I couldn’t get it to use the subject without doing that, but hey, it works! Click on the link and see it in action. If you like, you can boost my visitor numbers by actually sending the email. That would be nice. Wishing You Well as always.
Letter Templates
Just wanted to let you know that I have added some new pages to my blog. They are letter templates for those occasions when words can sometimes fail you. I noticed that quite a few visitors arrive here having searched for ‘letter of sympathy’ or ‘wishing someone well’ so I hope they will come in handy.
There are three templates with examples at the moment, and if I get any specific requests or come up with some new ideas I will add to the collection from time to time.
